Geotube breakwater First Phase A Success
The first phase of the Geotube Offshore Breakwater Project at Poonthura has been successfully completed, marking a major milestone in Kerala’s coastal protection efforts. The innovative geotube system—implemented with the support of NIOT and implemnted by KSCADC—has proven effective, eco-friendly, and economically viable in mitigating severe coastal erosion. With 400 metres of the planned 750-metre stretch already completed, the project is set to extend up to Shanghumughom before the monsoon season, offering long-term shoreline stability and improved safety for coastal communities.
